For men, generally you need to get below 10-11% body fat for the abs to be visible. For serious muscular definition, you need to be at 7-8% body fat. To measure body fat %, you can use a weighing scale that measures body fat percentage (bioelectrical impedance method) or use the skinfold caliper method.
Start doing whole body workouts. You need to be lean by reducing your whole body fat and not just focusing on the abdominal area. You reduce abdominal fat by doing whole body workouts also, not abs-specific exercise. Abs-specific exercises are meant to bring out muscular definition. You can’t show any visible abs if your muscles are still hidden under a layer of abdominal fat. So the priority is to get lean first and develop muscle definition later.
Belly fat can be an indication of excess cortisol. Perform short but intense workouts (such as MRT and HIIT). The growth hormones released by those kinds of exercise can offset the effects of cortisol. Get enough sleep to prevent cortisol overload. Sleep also releases growth hormones.
Basically, to get rid of belly fat and develop 6-pack abs, nutrition is the priority, followed by exercise. Only consume whole, natural foods that do not spike your blood sugar level. Avoid sugar at all cost and drink lots of water. Avoid processed and junk foods.
